A Santa Cruz community group working to ban explosive lithium battery storage site from being placed in our county

We are an all volunteer group and invite you to joins us

What’s Happening?

• A toxic, explosive Lithium Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is being proposed on an active apple orchard at 90 Minto Road, Watsonville.

• Located near high density neighborhoods, schools, farmland and waterways, it poses significant and irreversible hazards to people, animals and the environment.

• County supervisors are ignoring Measure J, passed by the Santa Cruz County voters in 1978, to protect and preserve our farmland.

• The Moss Landing disaster was batteries of a different chemistry (NMC) than the newer BESS batteries (LFP, planned for Minto Rd, Watsonville) but LFPs are also dangerous and subject to fires & explosions.

Why Is This Happening?

Why Is This Happening?
The County is under pressure from the developer to approve this project and the new County Ordinance to allow these projects.

What We Are Doing and How Can You Help?

•Our community group — BAN Lithium BESS Santa Cruz — is working to protect and preserve our agricultural land, public safety and uphold the will of the voters.
•We retained Gary A. Patton, local land-use and environmental attorney who was instrumental in writing Measure J.
• Your donation will help ensure that Measure J is upheld and the proper legal review and processes are followed.
